Romance in Salona is an event held every year in summer at the archeological site of Salona, and its goal is to "revive" history through quality and authentic interpretation of ancient heritage by organizing themed evenings that creatively show life in Salona in ancient times. With this event, we contribute to the promotion of the ancient Salona, but also to the improvement of the quality of content in the destination, especially at the Salona site. We are pleased to point out that the event is the winner of the annual tourist award "Simply the best 2013" (crystal statues and golden charters) awarded by UHPA and the travel magazine Way to Croatia in the category of Special Recognitions for Inventiveness and Development of Tourist Products, within the business tourism exchange PUT in Malinska on the island of Krk.
The program of the event includes the "Gladiator night" which begins with the entry of Emperor Diocletian, accompanied by Empress Prisca, the Roman guards and gladiators, with the sounds of drums in the amphitheater. After the arrival of the emperor and empress on stage, visitors enjoy gladiatorial fights, ancient dances and an excellent fire show and ancient fair.
The second evening of the event refers to the revival of an ancient wedding in the Tusculum Garden. This evening we aim to present what a Roman wedding looked like, how the bride and groom were beautified, what an ancient feast and the wedding ceremony itself looked like.
The last evening of the event refers to the fair of ancient crafts, which is held in the city center and which brings a touch of antiquity with a blacksmith, potter, a workshop of ancient souvenirs and mosaics, and a music program.
On the first and second evening of the event, our visitors have a free guided sightseeing of Salona. Entrance to the event is free of charge.
